Meet boy genius Teddy Hobbs, UK’s youngest member of Mensa

London – Many used it COVID-19 lockdown as an opportunity to learn something new, but few have managed to achieve what one talented kid in the UK has achieved. Teddy Hobbs may be the smartest little boy in Britain.

Teddy, who is only 4 years old, could count to 100 before he was 2 years old. It can now do this in seven different languages.

“I just assumed that every child has its own characteristics. Every child develops a little faster in something than others, and we just assumed that was his speciality,” said his mother, Beth.

But her bright child really came into her own, embracing her love of learning during Britain’s national quarantine. He wanted to watch only educational programs.

Teddy Hobbs, Mensa UK’s youngest member, aged just 4, plays with an abacus.

When he rolled out the Play-Doh, his mother asked him what he was up to.

“Cutting Kenya’s uniform,” he replied.

His brilliance caught the keen eye of Mensa, which calls itself “the largest and oldest high-IQ society in the world.”

Teddy has now become their youngest member in Britain. The organization only accepts people who score in the 98th percentile or higher on an intelligence test.

“He was three years and seven months old, and they said he recognized letters and words like an eight-year-old,” his mother recalled.

Young Teddy’s impressive report card includes learning to read at the age of two.

“Teddy did it all himself. When we go out and give him a treat, he wants a book, not chocolate,” his mother said.

Even though he is a boy genius, his mom made it clear that he is still a boy.

“He’s a perfectly normal four-year-old boy,” she said. “He thinks poo is very funny.”

His family wonders if little sister Teddy can follow in his footsteps, but they know he has big – albeit very small – shoes to fill.

Last year, Isla McNabb of Kentucky became Mensa’s youngest member at just 2 1/2 years old.
