Former president Donald Trump on Tuesday, he voluntarily gave up a second federal civil action against the New York attorney general, who was trying to derail her own $250 million fraud lawsuit against his Manhattan-based real estate company.

Trump’s latest legal capitulation comes less than a week after a federal judge in Florida slapped nearly 1 million dollars in a sanction for filing what the judge called a frivolous suit against Hillary Clinton.

Attorneys for Trump and New York Attorney General Letitia James said in a statement Tuesday that they had jointly agreed to dismiss the appeal in federal appeals court in Manhattan.

Trump, who is seeking the Republican presidential nomination in 2024, appealed after a federal judge in the Northern District of New York threw away his suit there against James.

In a statement, the attorney general said, “I am pleased that Donald Trump has withdrawn both of his pending lawsuits against my office.”

“As we’ve shown all along, we have a legitimate case against him and his organization, and we can’t be bullied or talked out of it,” James said.

Trump’s lawyer, Alina Hubba, said that “this appeal was voluntarily withdrawn for strategic purposes.”

In September, James filed a $250 million lawsuit against Trump, the Trump Organization and his three grown children over the alleged use of falsified financial statements related to the campaign.

James’ lawsuit was filed in New York state court after her investigators spent several years looking into allegations that the Trump Organization improperly manipulated the reported valuations of various real estate assets for financial gain.

In December 2021, Trump sued James in federal court for the Northern District of New York, seeking to bar her from continuing the investigation. That lawsuit alleged that the attorney general violated Trump’s constitutional rights, and the judge asked for an injunction that would halt or stop the investigation.

“James’ mission is driven solely by political animus and a desire to harass, intimidate and retaliate against a private citizen whom she considers a political opponent,” Trump’s lawyers wrote in the lawsuit.

That case was dismissed by a judge at James’ request in May.

Two months after James sued him in Manhattan, Trump sued James in Florida court in November, saying her investigation was part of a “war of intimidation and harassment.”

His second lawsuit, which James soon filed in federal court in Florida, sought to bar her from obtaining records from a revoked trust he set up in Florida that owned the Trump Organization.

As Trump waged a legal war against James, he also took aim in Florida federal court at another political foe: former Secretary of State Hillary Clinton, whom he defeated in the 2016 presidential election.

Last year, Trump sued Clinton, the Democratic National Committee, former FBI officials and more than two dozen other defendants in the case, alleging they tried to rig the 2016 election by pushing a “false narrative” that he was in collusion. with Russia.

Judge John Middlebrooks dismissed the lawsuit in September, calling it “a political manifesto outlining his grievances against those who opposed him.”

Last Thursday, Middlebrooks ordered Trump and his lawyer, Haba, to pay $937,989 in punitive damages for filing what the judge said was a “completely frivolous both factually and legally” lawsuit.

Middlebrooks’ order noted that Trump engaged in a “scheme of abuse of court” and repeatedly used the courts “to retaliate against political opponents.”

The next morning, Trump voluntarily dropped the lawsuit in Florida federal court against James, which was also pending against Middlebrooks.

Days later, Trump dropped an appeal to dismiss the lawsuit against James in federal court for the Northern District of New York.
