Troy, Alabama – President Joe Biden has called on Congress to quickly hand over $ 33 billion in additional US aid to Ukraine as the war-weary country approaches its 10th week of fighting the Russian invasion.

“I urge Congress to adopt this funding quickly to help Ukraine continue to succeed in combating Russian aggression, just as they did when they won the Battle of Kiev, and to make sure the United States and our allies can replenish our own stockpiles.” to replace what we sent to Ukraine, ”Biden said.

“This fight won’t be cheap, but renouncing aggression will be even more costly,” added Biden, surrounded by Javelin missiles at Lockheed Martin in southern Alabama.

Biden’s remarks came after an inspection of the production facility responsible for assembling the Javelin portable anti-armor weapon.

Since the Kremlin’s invasion of Ukraine, Javelin has consistently topped Ukraine’s wish list. To date, the United States and its allies have handed over 5,500 Javelins to the Ukrainian government.

“We built weapons and equipment to help defend freedom and sovereignty in Europe many years ago,” Biden said, referring to America’s industrial military efforts during World War II. “Today it’s true again.”

Javelin, one of the U.S.’s most effective weapons in Ukraine’s fight against Russia, comes from an unlikely location: an area of 4,000 acres located in the quiet forest of Troy, Alabama.

It is here, in about 50 buildings that make up Operation Lockheed Martin Pike County in Troy, where the pearls of American missile defense systems are being built and bred for battle.

Javelin, an anti-tank weapon system “fire and forget”, is designed to hit targets at a distance of almost 3 miles and can be launched from the shoulder. Throughout the conflict, Ukrainian forces used the Javelin system to strike at Russian tanks and artillery.

Co-manufacturer of the system Lockheed Martin and Raytheon and gathered at Troy.

For the first time in 2019, the defense titan opened to the media its heavily guarded compound in Troy, where it quietly assembled 190,000 missiles. Among them – the American THAAD, or terminal defense system at high altitudes, JASSM, or a joint air-to-surface counter-missile, as well as missiles Hellfire and Javelin.

The process of opening the facility took more than a year of security permits and was due to the fact that the complex could not include any photos or recorders.

In Troy, the Javelin rocket comes to life in a windowless room with a smooth floor, high ceilings and neatly arranged boxes with electronic cables. More than 50,000 classified missiles have been assembled and tested here over the past 20 years before joining the U.S. Army’s colossal arsenal.

Last month, Biden requested more funding from Congress afterwards exhausting his powers to reduce the president.

Biden’s latest $ 800 million military aid package was announced on April 21. the eighth such tranche of security assistancebrings US commitments to $ 3.4 billion after Russia’s invasion in late February.
