Cycora is the first solution developed by Ambercycle, a Los Angeles-based materials science company on a mission to end waste in the fashion industry. The Ambercycle ecosystem enables the consolidation, regeneration and reintegration of end-of-life textiles back into supply chains, reducing the extraction of finite resources from the planet. Ambercycle technology enables this movement by regenerating textiles at the molecular level, matching the quality of what is derived from petroleum today, according to a Pertex press release.
UK-based Pertex, a performance fabric brand, and Cycora, a material made from reclaimed end-of-life textiles, will collaborate to produce high-performance woven fabrics from textile waste sent to landfill. This collaboration will address the problem of textile waste, which results in more than 70 percent of clothing being landfilled or incinerated at the end of their life.
With over 40 years of history and a deep understanding of fabric development, Pertex is a leader in lightweight woven fabrics for technical apparel. The partners of the Pertex brand are the world’s most famous brands of clothing for leisure and sports. Using this experience in product development, Pertex will work in partnership with Cycora to produce high-performance woven fabrics. These fabrics will be intentionally designed to be compatible with Ambercycle’s end-of-life solutions to have minimal impact when regenerated at Cycora to start the cycle again.
“We are constantly looking for new ways to reduce our impact on the environment. This partnership with Ambercycle offers new opportunities to achieve these goals. For example, our Pertex Revolve fabrics are single-material and made entirely from recycled polyester. Currently, this polyester is made from PET bottles, but the partnership with Ambercycle paves the way for a new, truly circular fabric made from textile-to-textile regeneration.” Steve Laycock, Brand Director, Pertexsaid.
“On the way to developing a truly circular infrastructure in the fashion industry, we wanted to use Cycora materials in advanced technical products; while setting a precedent for intentional design. The partnership with Pertex allows round materials to thrive in the toughest environments; rock climbing, hiking, backpacking and more. Pertex and Cycora naturally align to accelerate the search for material harmony.” Shay Sethi, CEO of Ambercyclesaid.
