Hong Kong is ending its controversial hotel quarantine policy for travelers as pressure mounts on the city to ease Covid-19 restrictions to strengthen its economy and protect its long-standing position as capital of world business.

John Lee, Hong Kong’s chief executive, said arrivals would no longer need to self-isolate in hotels from September 26, lifting the previous three-day quarantine requirement. The ability of travelers to move around the city will be limited during the self-monitoring period of three days, compared to the current four. The pre-flight PCR test requirement will be waived in favor of the pre-flight express test.
