EASTON, MASS. (WHDH) – The Bristol County District Attorney’s Office is sharing additional details on a non-fatal police-involved shooting in Easton.

At around 11:41 p.m. on Friday, Oct. 28, dispatchers received a 911 call from a female victim reporting a domestic disturbance at a Central Street home. When officers arrived, the DA’s Office said they encountered a “potentially lethal situation involving a man allegedly holding a knife,” causing officers to draw their own weapons. An Easton officer fired his weapon, hitting the defendant. The victim was also slightly injured.

Officers rendered aid before paramedics transported those injured to area hospitals for treatment.

The victim told police she called 911 because she was arguing with her live-in boyfriend, Dwayne Gervais, 34. The victim said she locked herself in her bedroom to escape the defendant, after which he broke down the door. Gervais then allegedly armed himself with a knife. He faces charges including assault with a dangerous weapon and assault on a family or household member.

Gervais remains in an area hospital and is being held in custody pending arraignment. The arraignment may be held Monday via Zoom from the hospital through Taunton District Court.

The female victim was treated for her injury and released shortly thereafter.
