DENVER, Colo. (KRDO) — A Pueblo woman faces multiple charges connected to stealing thousands from Medicaid in fraudulent telemedicine billing.
According to the Colorado Attorney General’s Office, the Colorado Department of Law filed charges against 46-year-old Renee Fasano, the owner of Southern Colorado Telehealth.
An investigation by the department’s Medicaid Fraud Control Unit found out that between March 2020 and April 2020, Fasano routinely filed claims and received Medicaid reimbursement for telehealth services that weren’t provided.
According to court documents, Fasano took the Medicaid billing information from patients seen at Castillo Primary Care, where she had previously worked as a biller, and used that information to submit fraudulent bills. In these bills, Fasano claimed the patients had also seen her company.
In total, investigators say she stole $577,935.82.
Fasano faces two counts of Medicaid fraud, one count a class three felony and one a class five felony.
