Investigators looked for evidence outside a Wendy’s in Randolph after a daytime shooting left a young man hurt Wednesday afternoon.

“I just heard three gunshots,” said Tifphany Cunningham, who lives near the restaurant. “Three consecutive gunshots.”

As police searched the scene, other officers were looking for the gunman in the neighborhood.

“It’s scary, you know why, because you’re in the house and you don’t know where he is,” said David Burning. “He’s probably armed, gun, you don’t know what’s going to happen.”

Bruning heard the gunfire.

“Three or four shots going off at Wendy’s,” he said. “Once you hear gunshots go off you panic, you don’t know what’s going to happen.”

Investigators used a search dog to look in backyards.

Police say the man who was shot is 20 years old.

Randolph High School, about a third of a mile away, went into lockdown while the search for the suspect took place.

“I received a message from my daughter,” said parent Paul Reupia. “She said the school’s on lockdown, what’s going on out there.”

In a statement, Wendy’s said, “We are aware of an incident that took place at our restaurant in Randolph today, and we hope that the victim will make a full recovery. We believe this was an isolated incident, and we are cooperating with local law enforcement on their investigation.”

Police have not said what the motive for shooting may have been.

The victim is expected to survive.

The gunman remains on the run.
