Secretary of State Anthony Blinken gave a positive result at Covid

U.S. Secretary of State Anthony Blinken gave a positive result on Covid-19.

The 60-year-old Blinken is the second-ranked member of Biden’s cabinet to report the infection coronavirus.

Late last month, Vice President Kamala Harris was diagnosed and she returned to work at the White House on Wednesday after her test received a negative.

Blinken, who had a negative test on Tuesday and again on Wednesday morning, was positive in the afternoon through a PCR test.

The secretary of state, who is fully vaccinated and fortified against the virus, is experiencing only mild symptoms, the department said in a statement.

Spokesman Ned Price said Blinken would be isolated at home and maintain a virtual work schedule. “He is looking forward to returning to the Department and resuming his duties and travel as soon as possible,” he added.

On Thursday, Blinken was to deliver a long-awaited speech on China’s policy.

Price made it clear that the secretary had not seen President Biden in person for several days, and the president is not considered close contact.

At a regular White House briefing, spokeswoman Jen Psaki explained that “close contact,” according to the Centers for Disease Control and Prevention (CDC), is within 6 feet in 15 minutes.

However, this week Blinken had a busy schedule at the State Department and also collaborated with a number of foreign dignitaries.

He met with Swedish Foreign Minister An Linde and held discussions with her at the State Department on Wednesday.

The day before, Blinken also met with Japan’s national security adviser Akiba Takeo.
