A 14-year-old boy was shot and killed in Southeast D.C. Monday, according to the Metropolitan Police Department.
D.C. police said they were called to the 2600 block of Birney Place SE around 8:41 p.m. for reports of a shooting.
On scene they found the victim, a 9th grader at a nearby high school, suffering from a gunshot wound. He was transported to a hospital for treatment of serious injuries, but did not survive, police said.
Authorities said the shooting was targeted, and that the teen lived on the block. More details on the search for the shooter were not immediately provided.
The victim was the second teenager shot and killed in D.C. this month.
