The Biden administration has expressed concern to China about companies selling aid to Russia

Washington — The Biden administration has raised concerns with the Chinese government about Chinese companies selling non-lethal military aid to Russia for Moscow’s use in UkraineCBS News confirmed.

Chinese companies are providing non-lethal military aid and economic support that stops short of wholesale sanctions evasion, sources familiar with the situation told CBS News. US officials see it as a much scaled-down version of the Chinese government’s original plan when the war in Ukraine began, which was to sell lethal weapons systems for Russia to use on the battlefield. Bloomberg was the first to report that the US had expressed such concern to the Chinese.

The U.S. continues to observe “disturbing” activity by Chinese companies, but it’s unclear what elements the Chinese government is aware of, the sources said. The US has been closely monitoring the situation between China and Russia since Russia invaded Ukraine almost a year ago. The US plans to continue informing China about the consequences of providing material support to Russia’s war against Ukraine. The sources could not say what China’s response was to the US concern, and could not provide specifics on the type of equipment that Chinese companies have sold to Russia.

President Biden called China “the biggest challenge to the international order” and criticized China’s position in relation to Russia.

Although Mr. Biden and Chinese President Xi Jinping have met in person and virtually many times before, November marked their first personal meeting since Mr. Biden became president two years ago.

Russia’s war against Ukraine has no end in sight as the year draws to a close. Poland will ask the German government delivery permit The main German-made Leopard battle tanks are going to Ukraine, the Prime Minister of Poland said on Monday. Ukraine continues to ask Western countries for military assistance.
