Tunisia’s textile and clothing export earnings increased by 11.9 percent from January to September 2022 compared to the corresponding period in 2021, reaching 6,135.25 million dinars (about $1,902.41 million). However, the volume of goods exports decreased to 99,250.97 tons, down 27.24 percent compared to the same period last year.

From January to September 2022, exports of knitwear increased by 24.49 percent in tons and 34.85 percent in dinars. Garment exports by warp and weft grew by 12.82 percent in tons and 18 percent in dinars for January-September 2022 compared to the corresponding figure. in 2021, according to the monthly estimate of foreign trade in textiles/apparel by the Technical Center for Textiles (CETTEX).

There is an increase in the value and weight indicators of the export of clothing in base and weft relative to the main markets – Germany (+28.23 percent by weight and +34.02 percent in dinars), Italy (+10.17 percent by weight and +21.33 percent in dinars) and France (+4.40% in weight and +12.94% in dinars).

Tunisia’s textile sector exports fell by 50.33% in tons and by 34.03% in dinars. While the African country’s textile exports to France fell by 52 percent, exports to Italy rose by 13.65 percent.

Imports of textiles and clothing grew by 29.22 percent by the end of September 2022 compared to the corresponding period of 2021 and are estimated at 5,511.15 million dinars (about $1,708.89 million). However, the volume of imports decreased to 235,885,56 tons, which is by 16.06 percent.
