As of Oct. 23, Boston has seen more deadly gun violence this year than it did during the same period in 2021 — 26 fatal shooting victims, compared to 22 last year.

NEW YORK, Oct. 31 (Xinhua) — Black folks across Boston, the capital and most populous city of the U.S. state of Massachusetts, are perplexed as much as they are stunned by the loss of life over gun violence, reported local news portal boston.com on Friday.

Out of more than 1,700 fatal and non-fatal shootings logged citywide since 2015, over 1,300 of the victims were Black or African American, according to Boston Police Department data.

As of Oct. 23, Boston has seen more deadly gun violence this year than it did during the same period in 2021 — 26 fatal shooting victims, compared to 22 last year, said Boston police data.

The city’s five-year average for fatal shooting victims, not including 2022, is 30.6 per year, said the report.

However, there have been fewer non-fatal shootings, with 126 shootings through Oct. 23, compared to 147 during the same period last year, it added.
