American materials science company Hologenix has partnered with Spectro Coating Corp, the world’s largest vertically integrated manufacturer of flock coatings and flock fabrics, to create the first infrared flock material from Celliant Viscose. The efficient textile fabric converts body heat into energy and is the world’s first sustainable infrared viscose in fiber.

Celliant Viscose was developed by Hologenix, the makers of Celliant, a natural blend of bioceramics that creates UV used in textiles, and Kelheim Fibers, a maker of specialty viscose fibers, Hologenix and Spectro Coating Corp. said in a joint press release.

Materials science company Hologenix has partnered with Spectro Coating Corp, the world’s largest vertically integrated manufacturer of flocked coatings and flocked fabrics, to create the first flocked infrared material from Celliant Viscose. The efficient textile fabric converts body heat into energy and is the world’s first sustainable infrared viscose in fiber.

Flocking is an application technique in which tiny fibers are piled onto the surface of a textile, creating textures for both decorative and functional purposes. Celliant’s flocked viscose has many potential applications in medical tapes, bandages, braces and orthotics, home textiles and decor, dog beds, apparel, and more.

“We are very excited about Celliant flocked or woven viscose,” he said Raj Shah, Vice President of Spectro Coating Corp, based in Leominster, Massachusetts. “Not only is this the first time our company has worked with a quality fiber or textile, which puts us in an innovative new category, but the sustainability aspects of Celliant Viscose are also very much in line with our mission.”

Celliant contains natural ethical minerals that convert body heat into infrared energy to improve local circulation and oxygenate cells. These Celliant minerals are then embedded in plant-based viscose fibers. Viscose fibers are then superimposed on the base material. Celliant viscose provides all the benefits of viscose fiber—lightweight, soft, breathable, excellent moisture wicking—plus fiber enhancement thanks to Celliant’s infrared technology.

Celliant Viscose is the first IR flocked material produced by Spectro. Celliant Viscose also represents a further expansion of sustainable products for Spectro. In addition, Spectro products are made in the USA, as is Celliant’s mineral blend, the release added.

“We are proud to partner with Spectro Coating Corp on this initiative,” he concluded Stephen Kelly, Vice President of Global Business and Supplier Development at Hologenix. “Celliant viscose as a flocked material opens up new avenues for us in the medical field as well as other industries; particularly in products that are not easy for Celliant to integrate into. It can also be applied to some of our products that already contain Celliant, increasing the feel-good quotient even further.”
