Weak demand from the weaving industry and cheaper cotton led to a rise in southward yarn prices in the Ludhiana market. “The market still lacks confidence, but buyers are confident in the price of cotton yarn. The entire textile value chain must buy at comfortable prices so that they can ensure availability of raw materials for the whole year,” Gulshan Jain, a trader from Ludhiana market, told Fibre2Fashion.
Cotton yarn prices edged lower in North India today as post-Diwali sentiment continues to remain weak. Prices fell by Rs 10-15 per kg in Ludhiana and Delhi due to cheaper cotton and weak demand. Cotton prices fell by Rs 300-350 per maund of 37.2 kg in north India. Panipat Recycled Yarn also witnessed a bearish trend despite possible supply disruptions.
In Ludhiana, 30 count cotton yarn was sold at Rs 300-310 per kg (inclusive of GST). Fibre2Fashion’s TexPro market analysis tool. Comb yarn 20 and 25 pcs. traded at Rs 290-300 per kg and Rs 295-305 per kg respectively. Cardan yarn 30 pcs. remained at the level of 275-285 rupees per kg.
In Delhi, demand remained subdued as buyers and sellers awaited an improvement in buying from a transient industry. Cotton yarn reduced by INR 5 per kg for major categories and grades. “The market is facing a lack of confidence. Buyers expected a breakthrough in shopping across the value chain. The arrival of the new crop and lower prices will prompt buyers to restock,” said a trader from a Delhi market. Fibre2Fashion.
In Delhi, 30 count worsted yarn traded at Rs 295-300 per kg (GST), 40 count at Rs 325-330 per kg, 30 count at Rs 275-280 per kg and 40 count at Rs 310 ₹. 315 per kg, Art TexPro.
The recycled yarn market of Panipat has seen a downward trend in several types of recycled yarn. However, many other counts and varieties of yarn traded at earlier prices. As traders note, the prices of cotton and cotton yarn have not decreased, because the spinning mills have not set up the production of yarn, from which carding is obtained as a by-product. The coal-fired boiler industry will be restricted in Panipat due to strict regulations imposed to deal with heavy pollution in Delhi NCR. This will affect yarn dyeing activities, leading to a reduction in supply. But reduced demand is unlikely to push prices up.
In Panipat, recycled yarn 10s (white) fetched INR 100-105 per kg (plus GST). Recycled Yarn 10s (Colour – High Quality) traded at INR 110-115 per kg, Recycled Yarn 10s (Colour – Low Quality) at INR 80-85 per kg, 20 PC Recycled Yarn (High Quality) at INR 115-120 Rs.per kg kg and 20s recycled color PC (low quality) at INR 100-105 per kg. Recycled yarn 30 pcs. was sold at 155-160 rupees per kg. 10s optical yarn was priced at Rs 100-110 per kg in the market. Comb prices were operating at Rs 120-125 per kg. Recycled polyester fiber (PET bottle fiber) was priced at Rs 88-90 per kg.
Cotton prices in North India fell by INR 400-450 per 37.2 kg after Diwali Muhurta bidding. Cotton traded at Rs 6,100-6,200 in Punjab, Rs 6,100-6,200 in Haryana and Rs 6,200-6,250 per maund in upper Rajasthan. Prices were fixed at ₹61,000-62,000 per 356 kg candy in lower Rajasthan.
According to traders, cotton prices fell due to seasonal trends amid low demand from the spinning industry. Cotton supply continued to be tight as farmers were not interested in selling at current prices. Higher prices in the previous season raised their expectations for cotton prices. The arrival of cotton in the region was about 14,000-15,000 bales.
