Faith and Tim both gushed that Loretta was known for writing songs about and FOR women. “Loretta was unabashedly honest about the struggles and joys of being a wife and a mother, a woman who loves life — loving, lying, cheating, having children, not having children…she sang about it all,” Faith said. “She was fierce and proud of who she was, where she came from and how she lived her life.

Tim called Loretta a “trailblazer” and thanked her for paving the way for his wife and daughters. Faith continued, “She didn’t push the boundaries for women in country music, she crushed them. She gave us this brave new space to find our own way to dream and soar into the music we create and the careers and lives we have. She was always nice, kind and supportive to all of us. Every person in this room has a story to share. She was so wise and funny.

At this point, Faith had to stop for a moment to hold back the tears. “It is an honor to be in your presence, Loretta,” she said. “I am grateful for so many memories with you. I’m proud to be a woman in country music, I’m proud to be a mom, I’m proud to follow you on the musical path you’ve blazed for all of us.” Loretta died at the age of 90 on October 4.
