Senior night is a big deal for high school athletics, but at an OKC high school, the seniors let 7th grader Ethan Evans have the spotlight. He’s been battling cancer and spent the last year going to doctor’s appointments and treatments.

This week, his scans came back clean. At the Casady School football game, he rang the bell on senior night, a tradition for the football team.

“Glad to be done and getting back to my normal life, and getting back to playing a lot of golf,” Evans said.

He is a seventh grader, he likes math, and when he’s not in class, he will be out on the golf course. He told KOCO 5 that golfing is how he got through all his cancer treatments.

“I had to go to the doctor a lot, and then I would get sick after each treatment for like three days, and then I’d recover,” Evans said.

Just this week, his scans came back clean and he said the school’s football team had his back and they encouraged him to keep fighting.

“That would be his motivation to get better. It was like, you’ve got a golf tournament on Monday. You got to eat, drink, and feel better,” said Stacie Evans, Ethan’s mom.

Now that he’s beat cancer, he said he has two goals.

“Keep trying to play golf and do well in school,” he said.
